Yeah, I have been thinking a lot recently about the political value of (in Martel's terms) art that is not reducible to mere artifice, because it's not like great art has no political content, but that its political content can't be reduced to one particular interpretation. Thus allowing it to be both a source of inspiration in times of hope and a source of solace in times of despair.
