Domestic Left #56: Things I did in my 51st year
I made a point of going to see musicians playing live in small venues.
I went to see the Ronald K. Brown/Evidence dance company at the Byham Theatre and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Heinz Hall. Both nights I walked home over the recently reopened Roberto Clemente Bridge full of joy and thinking about how lucky I am to live in Pittsburgh.
I signed up to give money to several of my favorite writers and podcasters, and I began purchasing music again.
I started carrying around a couple of bucks in my pocket to give to anyone who asked for it.
I traveled to Lynn, Massachusetts for a labor history event and was too shy to talk to anyone.
I traveled to Columbus, Ohio to see my favorite band and shocked myself by chatting up both the lead singer and the mandolin player after the show.
I upped my cocktail game, thanks to my subscription to
.I suffered several intense disappointments, a couple personally and a couple more indirectly. I made a Spotify playlist titled “The week I lost faith.” I felt my feelings and sat with my sadness, exercising my grief muscles, which I am guessing I am only going to need more in the coming years.
And I got a lot of sleep.
Cheers!
